The Ministry of Food
Company of Cooks are the sole sponsors of The Ministry of Food Exhibition at Imperial War Museum London.
The exhibition opened on the 11th February 2010 and runs until January 2011. It will be an engaging and informative temporary exhibition examining Britain’s messages about the production, distribution and consumption of food during the Second World War. It will also look at the effect food had on the entire nation and its relationship with current agendas relating to sensible eating and thrift.
Diane Lees, Director-General, Imperial War Museum, says:
"We are delighted Company of Cooks is supporting The Ministry of Food. This exhibition is grounded in the Second World War, when the introduction of rationing brought with it lessons of economy and thrift as people were encouraged to ’Dig for Victory’, ’Grow your Own’ and wage a ’War on Waste’. Many of the exhibition’s themes resonate with contemporary issues such as seasonal eating, reducing imports and recycling. This makes the fit with Company of Cooks a logical one as it ties in with their brand and ethos perfectly - in the cafe at the Imperial War Museum London and at their other venues they aim to use seasonal produce and minimise waste while creating interesting menus. I am looking forward to extending our existing relationship with Company of Cooks through The Ministry of Food and taking advantage of their expertise as they support an associated events programe."
Mike Lucy, Founder and C.E.O. of Company of Cooks says:
"There aren’t many opportunities to sponsor a partner’s special exhibition with such similar values to our own. When we first heard about The Ministry of Food and the Museum’s proposal to examine Britain’s messages about the production, distribution and consumption of food in times of scarcity we were keen to be involved. In my opinion It will be one of London’s finest, most appealing and most socially relevant special exhibition for years.
We have been using seasonal, quality ingredients to create honest food concepts with the minimum of waste since 1996. We will be re-enforcing these messages by supporting the Museum in their educational events programme which will include Live Cookery Demonstrations, family events and a Wartime Farm.”
WARTIME FARM
Imperial War Museum hosted a wartime farm in neighbouring Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park during the Summer holidays where visitors interacted with the sorts of animals found in the back gardens of 1940’s Britain.
